The archeologists are not sure about early history of Ivory Coast, though some argues that there was Neolithic culture. Akan groups (Agni,and Baoule) invaded Ivory Cost in 19th century. It became a protectorate of France in 1843 - 1844 and in 1893 became a Colony of French.
Cote d'Ivoire / Ivory Coast got independence from France in 1960. Félix Houphouët-Boigny ruled Ivory Coast since 1960 onwards but the administration was hampered by two coups one in 1999 and other in 2001 and Civil War since 2002.
